Hyperloop FTW!

“I really hate patents unless critical to company survival. [We] will publish Hyperloop as open source.” -Elon Musk, CEO Tesla Motors

Elon Musk is a rising star in the world of entrepreneurship that has the world in awe. He revolutionised the way we use money around the world in internet transactions through PayPal. He led the efforts for space vehicle creation to carry on the space program with SpaceX. He is also the CEO for Tesla Motors, an automobile company that prides itself on fully electric cars that are very sexy and have also implemented car charging stations along the west coast of America. But all of these projects haven’t stopped this young entrepreneur. He is on an even more ambitious project that will revolutionise the way we travel around the world. This project is called Hyperloop.

2013-tesla-model-s_100412524_mFirst, let’s talk a bit about his latest successful project with Tesla Motors. “Consumer Reports is calling the Tesla Model S the best car it has ever tested. The Model S, an all-electric plug-in car, earned a score of 99 out of a possible 100 in the magazine’s tests.” “For the first time since anyone can remember, this year’s winner was a unanimous choice. Not a single judge had any doubts about the 2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year.” The Model S is a very sexy car and has left many people wanting one, including myself. This car is different to many others as Tesla is seeking to be truly revolutionary and looking for new and better ways to make the old combustion car obsolete. Tesla even aims to be almost completely void of all sources of oil and become completely carbon free. tesla-supercharger-fast-charging-system-for-electric-cars_100403181_mTheir charging stations, or Superchargers, are setting up across the US (and hopefully expand into Canada) will boast having solar canopies powering them so the charge the cars receive would come from renewable energy. And the best part of the Superchargers is that it’s free for all Tesla Model S vehicles.

In a previous post, I mentioned the use of ET3 technology as a means of transporting goods and people quickly to their destinations in vacutubes. Elon Musk’s revolutionary idea is pretty close to that idea. He says, “What you want is something that never crashes, that’s at least twice as fast as a plane, that’s solar powered and that leaves right when you arrive, so there is no waiting for a specific departure time.” Also he describes Hyperloop as a “cross between a Concorde and a railgun and an air hockey table.” He poses the question, “Is there a better way to travel quickly from, let’s say, from Los Angeles to San Francisco that’s better than the highspeed rail that’s being proposed? Because the highspeed rail that’s being proposed it would actually be the slowest bullet train in the world and the most expensive per mile in the world, which are not superlatives we’re looking for.” Currently, it’s mostly speculative as to how or what this entire project entails. hyperloop-1Some site have mentioned using vacuum tube transport such as ET3 which can theoretically go 4,000 mph, and others are claiming it’s a maglev system with speeds of up to 600 mph. As of today, we don’t know too much information, but definitely watch this space! A press release for this open sourced project is due on the 12th of August 2013. A date I can’t wait for and will be salivating over the details. Stay tuned!
